Building Self-Esteem
As a Facilitator for the Dove Self Esteem Fund Campaign, Melanie has spent years devoted to teaching young women to believe in themselves. The Dove Self Esteem Fund “Campaign for Real Beauty” is a global effort to educate and inspire girls and women to embrace a broader definition of beauty and increase their level of self-esteem, confidence, and happiness.
Why Is Self-Esteem So Important?
* 75% of girls with low self-esteem reported engaging in negative activities, such as
disordered eating, sexual encounters, smoking, or drinking when feeling bad about themselves.
* 7 in 10 girls believe they are not good enough or do not measure up in some way.
* 90% of girls want to change some aspect of their appearance.
* 61% of girls admit to talking badly about themselves.
* 4 in 10 young women admit to only seeing their flaws when they look in a mirror.
These statistics reveal how self-esteem directly impacts the lives of girls and women, and causes far too many to consequently fail to reach their full potential. As a Dove Self-Esteem Fund Facilitator my aspirations are to remove these statistics and help girls and women achieve their goals in life.
My Goals as a Dove Self-Esteem Fund Facilitator are to
* Facilitate Local Dove Self-Esteem Fund workshops such as
“Uniquely Me” - Workshops for Girl Scouts.
“True You” - Workshops for Moms and Girls.
* Train Others to become workshop leaders using
“Train the Trainer” – a program to equip mentors and teachers to
facilitate their own discussions about self-esteem.
* Encourage website visits with downloads of self-esteem building tools at campaignforrealbeauty.com. & selfesteem.dove.us
* Promote product purchase and inform how Dove beauty products help support these efforts.
* Work throughout America facilitating workshops nationally with girl’s and women’s groups.
* Band with the United Kingdom in the Dove Foundation that supports “Body Talk” in the UK, a partner
program about body image and self-esteem promoted in schools.
* Link with Australia in Dove’s Australian “Butterfly Foundation” which promotes
“Body Think”, a self-esteem workshop for girls and boys.
The Dove Self-Esteem Project was founded in 2004 to ensure the next generation of women grows up to be happy and content, free from misconstrued beauty stereotypes and the burden of self-doubt. The Project delivers self-esteem education to children (primarily girls) aged 8-17 years old through lessons in schools, workshops for youth groups and digitally across a number of channels.
